Our partner Social Outreach Programme began their  first tailoring school to help rehabilitate the lives of the women living in the Tsunami affected area of Tondiarpet, Chennai. Today it has three schools. Two of the schools are based in Chennai and are predominantly for the women of the self help groups. The other school is based in the village near the Ebenezer Children’s Home, which is for the local villagers and the girls at the home. he Tailoring School offers a six month course which is free and each student that completes the course receives a graduation certificate. The Indian Government has agreed to recognise this certificate and provides each successful student with a free sewing machine. Women who have graduated from the School have gone onto work for large clothing companies while others are able to save money by making and repairing their families’ clothes with their new machines.
