CREATE FARESHARE

Community Food Network

Each year in the UK….

  • Approximately NINE MILLION tonnes of surplus food is produced - and much of it goes to waste
  • More than FOUR MILLION people (and rising) including thousands who live in West Yorkshire are trapped in food poverty
  • Diet-related ill health costs the NHS £6 BILLION.

That’s the bad news, but there is a solution. Find about about the work of FareShare in West Yorkshire or watch our film...

FareShare West Yorkshire, operated by Create Leeds, is an independent franchise of the national charity, FareShare.

We work with the food industry to minimise fit-for-purpose fresh, frozen and long-life food going to waste and send this food into organisations working with the most vulnerable people in the community, including homeless and elderly people, children in disadvantaged areas, refugees and people suffering mental & physical health problems.

With an efficient and highly-professional operation (see FareShare in action link to photos) strategically located in the Holbeck area of Leeds – close to the M1, M62 and motorway network - FareShare West Yorkshire is ensuring that food and drink items donated for re-distribution are, via a growing network of groups and organisations, benefiting people of all ages.

In addition to supporting many people in need across West Yorkshire, operation of the FareShare franchise is enabling Create – an award-winning social business established in 2007 - to provide training and employment to former rough sleepers and offenders, giving them a platform to re-build their lives while helping others.
